Kick Start – Masks of Te Moana

For the Summer Learning Journey challenge, Masks of Te Moana we needed to create a animal face mask by hand. I used green coloured paper for my face, and pink coloured paper for the tounge. I started by searching for frog tracings to use for my face, drawing the shape of my frog face and cutting the paper out, then cut out the eyes. Then I got a piece of pink paper and quickly drew a tounge to cut and glue to my frog, and drew the mouth and nose with pencil.

This is how my mask turned out, I enjoyed this activity because I could get creative and use my own ideas to make something of my liking.

SLJ: Wanted – Stonefish

This is my completed stonefish poster. For the first Summer Learning Journey kickstart we were challenged to create a warning poster about one of the most dangerous fish in the sea.

I made my poster look like its underwater with sea bubbles, I also put a seprate background under “Do Not Approach!” to make it stand out more.

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt some new interesting facts I didn’t know before.

Facts I learnt:

  1. Stonefish are the most venomous fish in the world
  2. Their venom sacks are found in their dorsal fins
  3. Stonefish can survive up to 24 hours without water

Tokelau Language Week

For Tokelauan language week we created a slideshow with facts we found interesting about Tokelau. I worked in a group of 4. We researched and looked on different websites to find interesting facts to share on our google slide, 2 facts about Tokelau I found interesting was, Tokelau is such a small island that there isn’t a way to travel by plane, and Tokelaus capital city has a special attraction for vistors, where they see pigs swimming.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to do something for Tokelauan language week.

Birthday Hats

We created birthday hats to celebrate duffys 30th birthday. We started off on paper, and decided what our designs were going to be. I decided to have a crown with the song “I’m A Duffy Kid” in the front with a flower, my back design was “Happy Birthday Duffy” with the last y turning into balloons. To make my crown stand out more I added confetti pieces.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to use creativity and smart searching skills to look for ideas.

Why sleeping is important

We were challenged to research about why sleep is important and healthy. We were given questions to answer by watching some videos that explained why sleeping is important for us. Some questions we had were “how much sleep do we need?” and “what are the benefits of having sleep?”

I enjoyed this activity because I learnt why sleeping is important because I related to some of the videos of not having enough sleep.

Netball Comp

We completed in the after-school netball Comp and came 5th place in grade E.

Our netball coaches Mrs Bailey, and Miss Tele’a helped us to do our best each game. We had trainings and played our games every Tuesday and had 4 o’clock games, 5 o’clock games, and 6 ‘oclock games. I enjoyed this years netball because I helped me to become more condfiedent and become closer with some new people.

Modern Olympics

LI: To use our smart searching skills to help us explore the Modern Olympic games

LI: To work collaboratively in groups as an active participant and contributor

Recently we were learning about the modern Olympics and learnt about the Olympic values, creed, motto, and what the rings meant. Firstly we got into groups of 4 and picked out some questions to answer together;, one question that we picked out was, what is an example of an athlete that fought well? We picked Khleif, shes an Algerian boxer who faced some challenges and had people complaint about her in France Olympics.

Ancient Olympic Quiz

LI: To recall our knowledge on the ancient Olympics at speed

Using our prioir knowledge on the Ancient Olympics we created a kahoot for the class to enjoy. Before we started on the Kahoot we read some slideshows about the ancient Olympics to come up with the questions for our quiz, a question me and my partner thought of was, ‘Why were women excluded from the Olympics?’.

I enjoyed this because I could test mine and others knowledge with a fun activity created me and LS2.

Born to Run

LI: To practice skimming and scanning by looking for key words in the text when answering.

Our guided reading text was ‘Born to Run’. We worked collaboratively as a group to unpack the text and answer questions using evidence from the text to support our thinking. All our responses were written in the comments tool. I explained what I thought this reference meant ‘He was also one of the first coaches in the world to take women runners seriously, giving them training schedules that were as demanding as the menʼs.‘ I looked back at the story and made connections to the world back then to form my answer.

I enjoyed reading this text with my group because I could share to my group and was able to think back to what I had read.
